I’m going to be starting a series all about productivity & organization since I’m back in school now & that’s all that’s on my mind! For all you college students, this will be super helpful & even those who are working, there are always new ways to make your Monday-Friday a little easier! I’ve adopted all these tips over time & these are the things that work best for me day-to-day.
1.) Do as much as you can the night before
I set out my outfit for the next day, pack my lunch & pack my backpack all before I go to sleep. Some nights I just want to crawl into bed & not even think about the next day, but it’s easier for me to sleep knowing I’m somewhat prepared for the following day!
2.) Wake up early
All you non-morning people are probably like “really Jaslyn??!!” but I swear it’s the best thing for you. I get my workout in first thing, then get ready & have breakfast all before most people have even gotten out of bed. Now this does require going to bed earlier since sleep is the most important thing in my book because you can’t get stuff done when you’re sleepy! Slowly you will create a habit of rising with the sun (or sometimes even before) & going to bed before midnight & you’ll feel a lot better.
3.) Look at your planner before you look at your phone
I set my phone on my desk to charge overnight & don’t even look at it until the next morning after I’ve taken out my planner & written my top 3 to-do’s for the day. Which leads me to the next tip…
4.) Make a “Top 3” for the day
Write down three things you must accomplish that day. The rest can wait for tomorrow or the weekend.
5.) Be organized
I cannot stress this enough! Having a clean work space & a planner with all the day’s work in it, makes getting stuff done so much easier!
6.) Switch up your work environment
Coffee shops are always a good idea. Get together with others to study or get stuff done because just like with working out, having a friend can make it all easier (or at least more fun!)
7.) Motivate yourself
My personal favorite for studying & chores is an iced chai & Disney music.
8.) Break things down
Big tasks can seem really daunting, so break them down throughout the week.
9.) Set a timer
Set a timer for an hour & do as much as you can. Then take a break & do it again!
10.) Silence your phone
This one is tough, not gonna lie. But the constant dinging makes me want to respond to that text & then see that Instagram notification & then scroll through the Explore page… you get the idea! If it’s easier, just put your phone out of sight & then you won’t even be tempted.
Being productive is always a good feeling. It will take time to get rid of bad habits such as distractions & procrastination, but you’ll get the hang of it! I still have bad days where I just want to sleep & cry, but balance in life is everything… Don’t strive for perfection; just strive for better than yesterday.
