Why I love yoga & you should too

I started doing yoga when I was in high school. Or if you count those at home yoga videos that your mom does, than I’ve been doing it since I was about five. But I didn’t seriously get into it & start to feel & see the benefits of it until I came to college.

I took my first real yoga class (not just using Pinterest for ideas) my freshman year & loved it. I walked out of that first class tired, but so refreshed. I felt like I could conquer the world. And I never wanted to stop feeling that way. It is a kind of high. Yoga high. And I’m kinda addicted.

Now I’m definitely no yoga expert, but you don’t have to be to know that it truly makes a difference in how you feel. And it’s honestly a really good workout. I think some people see it as “too easy”, but trust me, it’s not. But what I love about it is I never feel bad when I can’t hold a certain pose or stretch farther, because it’s a competition with yourself. It feels so good to be in a room full of people who don’t care about what you’re doing because they’re so focused on themselves & improving themselves.

This summer I got into a routine of doing it nightly & I don’t know if it’s just me thinking I’m awesome, but I feel like I got more toned. And my mindset was definitely calmer. I also have a really hard time falling asleep so doing it right before I go to bed is the best natural way for me to fall asleep.

I’ve tried to get my friends into yoga before by taking them to classes, but they just don’t get into it because it’s “too slow.” And I get it: it’s definitely not as exciting as Zumba or cycling, but it’s a different kind of fun. Sometimes it’s frustrating when I’m not flexible enough or strong enough to do a certain pose, but once you do it for the first time, it’s the best feeling ever. Yoga is about growing as a person & overcoming challenges & a lot of other stuff that will just make you an overall better person lol. So I’m not forcing you to put on your Lulu’s right now, but I’m telling you that it will make you feel so much better. And we all want to feel good right?

I’ve linked my Pinterest workout board here, so you guys can do some yoga challenges & sequences if this post was at all inspiring. 😉

What’s your favorite workout class you’ve ever done? I want to get into other stuff so let me know in the comments or DM me on social media!

Chic of the Week

Happy Friday!

First of all, I am officially done with my first semester of sophomore year! It’s honestly going by so fast & I don’t know how to feel about it. I spent all day yesterday just relaxing & I’m already bored… but I have some fun things planned for this month & I’d rather be bored than have five deadlines!!

This week’s outfit of the week was taken when I was home for Thanksgiving. I paired my LC Lauren Conrad jeans (featured in last week’s Chic of the Week) with a top from Aéropostale that I got when I was probably 12, but it still fits. I put my grey cardigan from Forever21 overtop of it all to make the look more winter-weather appropriate. I’m wearing one of my favorite pair of shoes, my black mules from Forever21.

If you’re still prepping for finals, check out my post from Monday!

Finals Week Prep

Guess what week it is? The worst time to be alive for college students – finals week! Whether you have five finals or one, this post is for you: The hard-working, stressed out, so-over-it college student. Here are my tips for surviving finals week:

1.) Location

Studying is never fun, but it can be better if you’re in a relaxing spot. My personal favorite is the library or outside.

2.) Materials

Make sure you have all the books, highlighters & study guides you need! It sucks to get to your study sesh & realize you don’t even have what you need.

3.) Comfy Clothes

I’m talking fuzzy socks, cardigan, leggings, & a bun. Casual, studying-super-hard aesthetic.

4.) Snacks

Or Starbucks. Or both. I get really hangry & sometimes I need to just keep working & can’t stop to eat so a quick break with a snack can help motivate me to finish.

5.) Music

I listen to my Spotify Coffee Table Jazz & currently, Christmas music! But whatever helps you focus & keeps you relaxed…

Good luck on finals!! And remember, you are more than your GPA 😉

Chic of the Week

Happy December!

I’m glad it’s finally considered socially acceptable to watch Christmas movies in front of the tree with hot chocolate because that’s what I’ll be doing all weekend! I have finals next week & should probably study, but I have all of Monday to do that… I’m planning a post for Monday all about how to get through finals week so make sure to check back!

As for my outfit, this is what I wore to Friendsgiving this year. I got the top last year at an end of season sale, but it’s from the LC Lauren Conrad collection. It is so pretty & not too hot, so it’s perfect for this winter!! I paired it with my LC Lauren Conrad jeans & nude booties that I wear with absolutely everything.

P.S. Don’t forget to check out my post from earlier this week where I give a little life update 🙂

Life Update + Gratitude

Hi all! I hope you guys had a great Thanksgiving!

I didn’t have a Chic of the Week on Friday because I was busy Black Friday shopping, wrapping presents & spending time with family! I figured you all were busy doing the same things so you wouldn’t miss me too much 😉

I wanted to take this chance to just catch you guys up a bit on my life & talk about gratefulness. I know I’m a little behind because Thanksgiving was last week, but I think it’s a great time to talk about all that I have to be thankful for & why you should too 🙂

These pictures are actually from a few years ago & it was an impromptu photo shoot with one of my friends, but they turned out so good. At the time, my friend was a freshman here at ASU & I remember asking her a ton of questions because I still had no idea what to do with my life or where I was even going to college!  As I was studying the pics, I also saw how bad my skin was & remember that my confidence was so low because of it. But I have changed so much since then & become way more confident, breakouts or not 🙂 And I’m also so, so happy with where I am, so it gets better!!

I went home to my small town for Thanksgiving to be with my family. As much as I disliked living in a small town at times, I have grown to appreciate it & the friendships it gave me way more since starting college.

My brother is in Hawaii for school & some of my other family is across the country so this year’s Thanksgiving dinner was a little different, but we did get to FaceTime those that couldn’t be there in real time & it was actually really fun & reminded me that no distance is too far when you care about someone!! It’s so easy to get caught up in how different life is & start to miss what you used to have, but I think it’s important to do the best you can in any new situation & look at the bright side. I love traditions & wouldn’t say that change makes me super happy, but I’m working on my go-with-the-flow attitude more.

Jacob & I are celebrating 3 years together in January! We are also turning 20!! Both are so crazy, but exciting at the same time. Sometimes I wish more than ever that we were at the same school & long distance can be sooo hard, but it’s worth it when we do get to see each other. I’m so grateful for him & the person he is in my life. And I always have to remind myself that, “what’s meant to be will be.”

I only have 2 weeks of school left! I have finals next week… prayers please haha. But then I’m gonna go on a little road trip, spend time with my friends & family, work a little bit, blog A LOT, (blogmas?) & do all the stuff I don’t have time to do when I have school! I’m super excited to just relax. And maybe finally binge watch the rest of Pretty Little Liars.

Anyway, good luck to all of those having finals soon 🙂 don’t forget to slow down for a bit & think about everything you have to be thankful for. It’s probably more than you realize.

What are you guys grateful for? Let me know in the comments or on social media!

My Top 20 Pinterest Quotes

I’m such a quotes person. I can’t remember exactly when I became obsessed with words & sayings, (probably when I got a Pinterest), but I love having a new phone background every week that will make me smile or inspire me when I look at it. I have an entire board on Pinterest dedicated to some of my favorite quotes. It was hard to choose just some, but if you want to see more make sure to follow me on Pinterest!

I hope these inspire you! Happy Monday!

Chic of the Week

Happy Friday!

It’s almost Thanksgiving! Is it just me or has this month gone by super, super fast?? I’m happy though because I am ready for this semester to be over!!

I’ve been kinda sick this week (for the third time this month…) so I’ve been really lazy in my outfits. I pulled this one together kinda quick before going on a study date yesterday. My class was cancelled so I decided to make the most of it! I found a super cute coffee shop right across from where I live. I think I’m about to spend the next few weeks there…

Anyway, for outfit details: I got the sweater a few years back when I was still in high school at an end of winter sale or something. It’s super soft & warm, but not too hot for 80 degree winters haha. I think I got the leggings at Kohls because I love how cheap & comfy they are! And the shoes are from Forever21. I can’t remember if I’ve talked about them yet, but they’re super versatile & easy to slip on as you’re running out the door. But they still look like you tried.

My roomies & I are hosting Friendsgiving today & I’m sooo excited. I love any excuse to have all my favorite people in one place 🙂 It’s our first time cooking a turkey though so wish us luck!!

For Him: Gift Guide

Tis’ the season to shop (& for gift guides on gift guides)! I don’t know about you guys, but I actually enjoy Black Friday shopping! The Christmas music, the busy stores, the cold…it makes me happy & puts me in the holiday spirit. I try to get some of my shopping done then & definitely weeks before Christmas so I can wrap them all cute! I always have a different wrapping theme every year, so maybe I’ll do a blog post on that too.

But basically, shopping for my dad, brothers & boyfriend can be overwhelming. I feel like dudes are hard to please. And I also feel like they never want anything because they just buy what they want, when they want it! So throughout this year I’ve been keeping a growing list in my notes when Jake mentions he wants something so I can just go off that when I’m shopping. That way I know he’ll like what I get him & it makes me feel better about spending money haha. I don’t like giving gifts just to give something!! I want it to be meaningful.

I’ve put together this gift guide, based on the stuff the guys in my life like, to help you guys out whether you are buying for your little brother or your mans!

P.S. You can always find a lot of this stuff for cheaper if you get off brands or shop on Amazon or something. They’ll never know…  Just a tip 😉

Chic of the Week

Happy Friday!

This week’s outfit is something I put together last minute before class, but it actually turned out cute! The top is one of my favorites because it can be worn off the shoulder or just as a regular blouse, so I can dress it up or down. I got the pants awhile ago & don’t normally like how they fit, but this day, I liked them hahaha. The shoes are from lucaandgrae.com & are a super basic color & style so they can be worn with pretty much anything!

I’m actually going to California for a quick trip this weekend to watch ASU beat UCLA 😉 I’m super excited! We have a few hours before the game starts to hang out & explore so if you guys know of any cool things to do near UCLA, let me know please!

P.S. I’m also planning a few photo shoots here soon hopefully, so you guys can start seeing cool pictures instead of these boring layouts!

Hygge 101

I was first introduced to Hygge on Pinterest (of course) & loved the idea of it. It’s about living simply & trying to enjoy every day in some way possible. This semester has been a stressful one so I’m looking for ways to relax & be happy despite everything going on! As I kept reading about Hygge I realized that it incorporates everything I love & focuses on the things that are most important in life. I made a graphic for you guys that pinpoints what Hygge is all about! I’m super into it & I think now is the perfect time to slow down & be grateful!!

Let me know what you think about this in the comments or on social media! Also, do you guys like graphics?? Should I do them more often??
