12 Things

Hello guys!!

Today’s post is going to be a quick 12 Things, to tell you guys about my summer so far & my whereabouts. The last time I did one of these was the end of the school year I think, so it’s time for an update!

1.) I am for sure going to Canada this summer!! We are going to Vancouver & Victoria, so if you’ve ever been, please send recommendations for things to do/see.

2.) I LOVE my new job/internship. It’s literally the best job ever. The people are amazing, the cause is amazing, the work is amazing. I’ll probably talk about it a ton, so sorry in advance! Just super passionate 🙂

3.) I’ve been really into country music lately! I grew up listening to it because I lived in a town where everyone liked it, but I go through phases. My first concert was actually Tim McGraw!

4.) I just got back from a staycation, & it was rainy the whole time, but still a good time with my family & a nice break from life 🙂

5.) Speaking of rain, it’s monsoon season here in Arizona!! For those of you that don’t know, that means rain & clouds, aka my fav weather!

6.) For the first time ever, I made my own dentist appointment today. Growing up is horrible.

7.) I just started Riverdale on Netflix!! Seems like the typical high school flick, but I love those kinda shows. Everyone raves about it so we’ll see!

8.) I bought a Victoria’s Secret robe this weekend & I’ve been wanting one forever & it is satin & soft so I think I am never going to take it off.

9.)  I am slowly transitioning into sustainable living, & by that I mean, not using plastics & horrible things for the environment as much!! It’s so important & I hope soon everyone catches on to that.

10.) I was THIS close to buying a cat last weekend. Then I decided now is not the time. Cute Pinterest kitties will have to do for now:/

11.) I counted & school starts in like 8 weeks & I. am. not. ready. 🙂

12.) It’s currently 9:40 p.m. on Sunday night & my bedtime is 10 p.m. (get your 8 hours!!) so I am going to say byeee!

Why & How I Started Blogging

Hey guys! I’m backkk. And better than ever. 😉

I took a little break from posting, kind of on accident, kinda not. I have been super busy & distracted with my new internship so I’ve been off track with posting. But I wanted to give you guys a little background on why I started blogging in the first place. I published my first post on May 8, 2017. So here I am now, a year later, & I’m ready to reflect.

I have said this before, but I’m going to say it again, because it’s super relevant & the whole reason I started blogging in the first place: I love writing. It’s my form of stress release & really fun & rewarding. I have kept a journal since I was probably about 10. It’s funny to look back & read my entries because I wrote, “I heart Justin Bieber” on every single page, hoping that would magically translate into him discovering me & loving me in real life. Alas, that didn’t happen, but I kept writing & still journal (most) every night. I mostly write about my day, but a lot of times it’s just about what’s going on in my life. It’s kinda like my Burn Book (Mean Girls reference to those of you who are uncultured) in a way too, because there are many entries that are solely about one person & what they did to make me mad/sad. hahaha.

This post isn’t about my journal though. It’s about how my love for writing & expressing myself through words, got me to where I am today. If you had asked 10-year-old me if I planned to go to college for journalism & start a lifestyle blog, I would’ve been like uh no, where are my ponies though?

When I entered college, I began to see so many people have hobbies turned side hustles. My roommate my freshman year actually had her own YouTube channel, & was/is very successful. I wanted to write for a magazine once I graduated & had an interest in fashion, recipes, working out… lifestyle stuff basically. I had a lot of free time my freshman year because I didn’t have a ton of friends, & didn’t work because I wanted to get adjusted to school first. I was following so many bloggers & influencers on Instagram & I started to wonder if I could do the same thing.

Second semester freshman year is when things started to happen. I got connected with a guy who had a side hustle & recruited me to help him with it. It was a blog of some sorts that talked about fashion & culture in Phoenix. I told him how I thought about starting a blog, & he was all for it. While it was my decision to start one, he really pushed me & motivated me & gave me the confidence to go for it. For that, I am forever grateful. Because while some may think I’m a super outgoing extrovert because I put my life out on the internet, I am actually the opposite. I am quite an introvert & it’s hard for me to put myself out there because I fear the judgement of others & failure. But once I had the push, there was no stopping me!!

When I first started my blog, it got a lot of attention because everyone was super excited to read it, & I was excited to post content. But eventually it slowed down after a couple of months. I’m not going to lie & say there hasn’t been days where I wonder why I’m even doing this. It is super frustrating to create content & write long posts just to realize I’m not getting a ton of views. But I remind myself daily that I’m doing it because I love it. And that’s honestly all that matters. 🙂

One day, I hope to turn my little slice of the internet into my career. Brainstorming & creating content, attending special events & working with brands & others is so fun to me. I love the creative industry because everyone is willing to help each other out, because we’re all in the same boat. Everyone I meet is so cute & nice!! I love helping others, so it’s literally a win-win.

There are days when I don’t feel like posting. There are days when I question why I put my opinion out in the world so anyone can read it & hate me for it. There are days when I wish Instagram didn’t exist, & there was no such thing as the internet. But at the end of the day, I am so, so grateful I went for it & created this blog. It has become my identity & I am so proud of it. I can’t wait to watch it grow & look forward to all of the opportunities that will come with it. Thank you to each & every one of you who has ever read my posts, took my blog pics, liked an Insta pic, collaborated with me, & encouraged me. I want to help YOU & give YOU something to look forward to, so your support is everything!!

with (lots of) love,

Hawaii Travel Diary

Happy Friday guys!!

The moment you all have been waiting for (or at least I have been)… my Hawaii travel vlog is up!! I’ve said it a billion times, & I’ll say it a million more, but it was such a fun trip & one of my best memories, so I’m excited to share it with you guys. What you see here doesn’t even do justice to how amazing Hawaii is & the awesome time I had!

Just as a disclaimer, because I feel the need, I am still new to this whole YouTube thing, so it won’t be the highest quality or anything crazy, but I’m hoping to only get better! I hope you enjoy it & feel free to subscribe to my YouTube for more travel videos!! (& maybe some others if I feel like it.)

Chic of the Week

Happy summer Friday!!

I am in a 100,000x better mood in the summer. It might just be because I have five iced coffees a day, but we’ll pretend it’s because I don’t have school! I know for sure it’s not the weather, because I do NOT like that. At least not 120 degree weather.

This week’s outfit of the week is a little different; I’m showing you guys my swim suit from Target that I wore in Hawaii! I got so many compliments on it & I find high waisted suits so flattering on every body type. It is so comfy & modest. I love swim suits that are not only cute, but comfortable. There is NOTHING worse than feeling like you are going to have a nip slip every second amiright ladies? Target also has really cute suits for cheap! I feel like there is no such thing as too many suits, so I try to buy a bunch of cheap ones.

Speaking of Hawaii… the moment you all have been waiting for… my Hawaii travel diary is going up next week!! Make sure to check back for that 😉 In the meantime, check out my Hawaii Recap blog post!

Happy long weekend guys!!

P.S. Target is having a swim suit sale right now so hurry!! Literally suits starting at $12.

Pros & Cons of Roommates

Having roommates is a huge part of college; I’ve been blessed to have wonderful roommates so far, but not everyone has! Going into my third year, I couldn’t decide if I wanted to live alone or keep living with roommates. I decided to have roommates because it kinda just worked out that way & I’ll be living with my best friend from high school so I’m super excited for that!!

When I was trying to decide whether or not I wanted roommates, I had to think about the pros & cons. I tend to think things through A LOT, probably when I don’t need to, but I put a lot of thought into the decision. I decided to tell you guys about my experience living with roommates to help you guys out! I know it’s not an easy decision & living alone can seem really intimidating. So here’s the thing…

Pros:

  • Built in best friends

College is so much better when you have people you can go to! After a long day, I always enjoy coming home to talk to my roomies or hang out with them.

  • Low cost

Living with roommates will most likely bring down the price of rent. The more people pitching in, the less each person has to pay!

  • Study dates

Chances are, your roommates will also be in college! Studying with them is a great way to get things done & enjoy time together out of your busy schedules.

  • Cute clothes

Okay, this is definitely, probably the best part. You literally have a bunch of other closets to shop in!! I know that my roommates & I swapped shoes & clothing all the time. We are each other’s personal stylists & there’s nothing better than that!

Cons:

  • Messes

Okay so before I get too far in, you must know I am a neat freak. Everything must look & smell perfect all of the time, so living with other people is tricky for me sometimes because not everyone is the same way! I may be OCD about it, but it can be hard to live with people that don’t value cleanliness as much as you do. I suggest making sure 1) you live with people who are somewhat like you in terms of cleanliness/messiness & 2) make a chore chart!! It helps to keep people accountable & avoids anyone feeling like they are doing too much of the work.

  • Pettiness/Drama

So this is basically a given with any friend group. Everyone is going to have differences & sometimes those can just boil up & explode! It’s tough to live in an environment where you don’t feel welcomed, so when drama arises, it can have a big impact on your life because you are literally seeing these people every day. Since it is inevitable that problems will arise, just try to talk them out as soon as possible. It basically is the same as any relationship; the sooner you talk it through, the better things will be in the long run! Although there may be hurt feelings & some hard days, just try not to let anything ruin the friendship. And if all else fails, just be nice lol.

Living with my froomies (friends & roomies) this year was AMAZING. We had so much fun together whether it was watching The Bachelor, planning a party, making dinner, or getting boba (our bodies are 90% boba, 10% coffee at this point). That’s not to say we didn’t have problems & hard days, but that’s just a part of relationships in general! My advice is that you find some people you literally can’t live without 😉 & enjoy the experience. College is the best time in life to have roommates, so do it while you can! I have never lived alone, so I can’t speak for that, but I hope this post helped you think it out a little more!

P.S. *Actual picture of me & my roomies being cute. Love you guys ❤

Hawaii Recap

Hi guys!

I’m finally back!! Sorry I’ve been MIA for so long, but I had finals & then a super fun trip to Hawaii so I just decided to take a break from posts for a couple of weeks to get re-inspired & focus on other things.

This post is going to be allll about my trip to Oahu, Hawaii! It was honestly such a dream & I would go back in a heartbeat. I was only there for one week, but I feel like I need a solid month to be able to see everything that there is to see.

We stayed downtown Waikiki, which is on the island of Oahu, close to Honolulu. Although I live in a city now, this city was nothing like Phoenix. For starters, we had a BEACH VIEW. It was so nice & I felt so close to everything.

As soon as I found out I was going to Hawaii, I got on Pinterest (typical) & looked up all the cool places to visit. We only had a rental car for one day, so unfortunately, we didn’t make it to North Shore or some of the other little towns nearby. If you ever go, try to get a car for a couple of days because there is so much to see outside of the city!!

We took our rental car to Makapu’u Beach Park, which wasn’t too far from the city. You can bus there if you need to. (TheBus is how most people get around, but I would avoid it unless you HAVE to.) It was a small beach with lots of rocks & a view of a lighthouse. I felt like I was on the west coast with the rocky beach! It was so beautiful & the water was just so BLUE. I took all the other beach pics at another beach called Cromwell’s or Ka’alawai. I was really, really horrible at pronouncing all of the Hawaiian names lol.

Another thing that we didn’t get to do, but would require a car ride, is the Sunrise Shack fruit stand, near North Shore. It looks so Instagrammable!

One of the best things I think we did was hike Diamond Head. It’s a really famous hike that overlooks the entire city & the coast! It was so pretty, but very crowded. I took the jumping picture at the top of Diamond Head & may or may not have passed a No Trespassing sign to get it. Anything for the ‘gram amiright?

There is a lot to do downtown Waikiki, so don’t worry if you don’t have access to a car! I still didn’t do everything there is to do. The Moana Surfrider beach side bar is the cutest place & has so many yummy drinks. (Especially if you’re over 21, which I am not.) :/ It feels like you’re in the south because the hotel style is like that of a southern mansion. There is a long porch with rocking chairs over-looking the ocean! Also, so much shopping!! The malls are open-air & unlike anything you’ve ever seen, I promise. The Ala Moana Center is huge & offers all the shopping you could ever want, plus we saw a hula show there! It has the coolest Japanese food court too with sooo much ramen!! The International Market is also a shopping center in the heart of Waikiki where I got shaved ice! The best shaved ice place is Island Vintage Shave Ice. I guess shave ice is a big deal in Hawaii so of course I had to try it & I was expecting it to taste like a snoh cone, but it was so much better! It almost had a sorbet texture & it was topped with fresh fruit. It would be super yummy on a hot day! (Also, P.S. it’s very humid in Hawaii.)

Outside of the mall area, you can find Kona Coffee. There are several locations I think, but I went to the one at the Moana Surfrider hotel. I had to try it because I would definitely call myself a coffee lover. Kona is not the most Instagrammable place, but if you love coffee, I would try it. The best place for an Instagram & a drink is Olive & Oliver at the Surfjack hotel in Waikiki! It’s a boutique & coffee shop in one. The clothing is cute, & so are the lattes! Also, you need to try Banan! It’s a healthy ice cream place that makes ice cream out of bananas. It was really good, but normal ice cream is still better I think.

Last, but not least, my brother & I walked around Kings Village in downtown Waikiki. It is a small, European style village with tourist shops & Asian pop up shops. There are lots of good picture opportunities there. Also, Asian markets are a huge thing there & they are so intimidating! You have to bargain for everything because nothing has a price & it really scares me lol. But you can get stuff for cheap if you’re good at making deals!

I think that’s everything!! I’m also making a travel diary of my trip, so make sure to look out for that 😉 I hope you enjoyed this post & all of the pictures! It was by far one of my favorite trips ever & I loved telling you guys all about it!

Have you ever been to Hawaii?? Let me know in the comments or DM me on social. 🙂

Chic of the Week

Happy Friday guys!

This week’s outfit is super summery! This has been the first hot week in awhile, & I wasn’t really ready for it. Spring lasted 2 seconds! Anyway, I do love summer fashion because it is so easy to look good with no effort! I love the minimal style that summer brings.

This romper is from the Kendall & Kylie collection at PacSun. I got it last summer so it’s not available anymore, but I’ve linked a similar one in the “Shop this Look” section. Don’t forget to check that out at the end of my Chic of the Week posts because that’s where you’ll find all of the outfit details! Also, PacSun is having a SALE right now! Get 20% off $100 with the code SPRINGSTYLE20. You don’t want to miss that deal!

Next week is my finals week & then summerrrr! I don’t know if I told you guys, but I’m officially going to Hawaii! I’m so excited to sightsee & have a vacation, but also to see my brother! I might just have him teach me to surf. We’ll see. But with that being said, I won’t be blogging this next week because I have a lot of studying & packing to do! But I will come back with lots of good pictures in a couple of weeks!

Good luck to those of you taking finals! Check out my post from Monday for some motivation 🙂

Chic of the Week

Happy Friday!

This week’s outfit is super summery! It actually wasn’t too hot this week, but I think it’s going to be in the 90’s in Phoenix next week :/

The top is from Forever21 & I saw it & loved the back detail. It has a slit so it’s somewhat open back, but you can still wear a bra with it! I bought it last semester, so unfortunately they don’t have the exact one anymore, but I will link something similar down below! I have talked about the shorts many times because I only have a couple of pairs & it’s hard for me to find some that I like.

Again, another super short post! I just don’t have a lot of details to give you all, & have a case of “no motivation to do anything” since it’s the end of the school year. I just want summer!!

Don’t forget to check out my post from Monday!

Inspiration

I am one of those people who has had many passions throughout my life. When I was younger, I went through a horse phase, & then a gymnastics phase where all I wanted in life was to go to the Olympics. I put my heart into everything that I do. I would spend hours reading horse books & practicing a back walkover on the wood balance beam my dad made for me. Now, my passion is this blog. I want to make it something big, & I work at it everyday & spend hours on Pinterest reading up on the “do’s & don’ts” of blogging, which is the equivalent to horse grooming books back in the day.

The problem is, sometimes I’m just not inspired. Take this post for example; I planned to write it this weekend & have it be really long & awesome, but it’s Monday morning & I’m just sitting down to write. I always want to be honest on my blog because people love honesty & that’s the only way to build a real “fan” base. So the truth is, sometimes I don’t want to.

Staying inspired can be hard, but I’ve learned the best way to stay inspired is to be original. The moment you try to copy someone else, you become totally lost in who you are & what your goals are. It’s hard to copy someone so closely. But it also helps to follow people on Instagram or Pinterest who you admire, & befriend people who share the same passion as you. It’s important to have friends & people in your life that understand what you’re going through. I can’t stress this enough!! Make sure you surround yourself with people who inspire you & make you want to push yourself harder, but never compare yourself because you aren’t them & you are on your own journey. (SO CHEESY I KNOW.) This applies to everything in life, not just hobbies. It can be your major, or fitness, or even a relationship.

I really don’t have a quick fix for feeling down or uninspired, but these are the things that help me. As college finals are getting closer, I know a lot of students (myself included) really start to stress out. It can definitely be a time where it’s hard to find motivation let alone inspiration. But remember why you started. You are doing this for you & you love it, & if you don’t love it, well you need to change something because life is too short to hate your life every single day. Staying inspired is so much easier when you love what you do & who you are.

How do you stay inspired? Help a girl out & comment below or DM me on social!

Chic of the Week

Happy Friday!

Today’s outfit is actually courtesy of my mommy!! When I moved out for college, she moved some of her stuff into my closet & so when I came home & saw this dress, I had to have it!! It’s crazy how stuff comes back in style! I can’t tell you details on this exact dress, but long floral dresses & jumpsuits are in this season, so go snag one!

I know this is a short post, so I decided to add “12 Things”. I’ve thought about doing it once a month, just to keep you guys updated on my life. So here goes…

1.) Only 3 more weeks of school left!! I am so excited for summer because…

2.) I have a lot of exciting travel plans! I don’t want to say anything yet because nothing is for sure, for sure, but it’s about a 98% chance I’m going to some pretty cool places.

3.) I also got an internship for this summer & fall! My school requires us to do internships for credit (do other schools too??) & so I’m excited to get that going because…

4.) I’m almost halfway through college! When this semester is over, I will only have two years left. I’m not sure how I feel about that.

5.) I got my first OFFICIAL blogger mail from Chic Wish List which has jewelry, clothing & chic purses. I especially like their jewelry, so you will see a post soon.

6.) I mentioned this before, but I recently purchased Aspyn Ovard’s presets for my blog & Instagram! (Make sure to follow along here.) I already love how they make my feed look.

7.) My mom told me that my name was almost Aspyn, spelled the same exact way! She & my dad love the aspen trees of Colorado, so that’s where the inspiration came from 🙂

8.) I’m thinking about switching over my blog to be self hosted. I’m coming upon the year anniversary of starting this blog, so I’m ready to make improvements!

9.) I want to get my hair cut again before summer, & I’m thinking about getting highlights. YAY or NAY? Please help!!

10.) I have finally watched Friends all the way through & it’s so good! I am so attached to the characters. I’ve been told I’m most like Rachel & she’s my fav character!

11.) I bought a new house plant that isn’t a succulent & I feel like it’s going to die & I can’t figure out what I’m doing wrong! I water it & keep it in the sun for 4-6 hours per the directions, but it doesn’t look like it’s thriving. So any plant people, please help me.

12.) I am watching The Office & it was just the fake fire scene & I’m dying laughing. Best scene in TV history ever.
