Good morning!

This week’s outfit of the week is super simple. I’m wearing my favorite t-shirt dress from Forever 21 paired with espadrilles from Steve Madden. I wear this dress at least once a week so I really need to invest in one of every color! And these shoes are the perfect pair of slip-ons that are neutral enough to go with a lot. It looks like I put in effort, but that’s what I love about t-shirt dresses…

I’m having a hard time with finding unique locations for my outfit of the week… Let me know if y’all  have any creative ideas!

Social Media: It’s Not a Competition

This is a topic that’s been on my mind for awhile now. I know it’s a little different than what I normally talk about, but I think it’s important to share. So I hope you really understand it & form your own opinion as well. I’d love to know what you think & how you feel. That’s part of the reason I started blogging in the first place! To share my thoughts with others & surround myself with like-minded people. And maybe make an impact in someone’s life.

Before I get too far into this though, I just want to say, I love social media. I spend an embarrassing amount of time scrolling through Instagram & curating the perfect theme; going through the Explore page & drooling at the vacation pics & wondering how on earth someone can be so perfect & afford that bikini. (But for real college students, please tell me your secret to not being broke.) I also may or may not plan my activities based on how Insta-worthy they will be. And I love looking at photo albums on Facebook & retweeting relatable stuff. So yes, I love social media & I spend a lot of time scrolling, liking, & feeling less than perfect.

And that is the problem.

I feel like summer is the hardest time to be on social media. Because everyone is showing off their trips, concerts, cuddle seshes with their SO’s, their hot bods, their cool cars, their sweet internships… the list goes on. And it’s all understandable. I am guilty myself.

But it becomes too much. Those perfect couple in Cabo vacation pics; study abroad snapchats; I start to compare myself to others & it becomes a downward spiral of “My life isn’t good enough.”

My life is plenty good enough though. I have a family who wants to spend time with me, a good paying job, a car that gets me where I need to go, a supportive boyfriend who also happens to be my best friend, too many clothes & too much stuff… but somehow it never seems like enough when I go on Instagram & see my friends in Europe with their sports car, $180 bikini & designer carry-on.

But then I remember, it’s not a competition.

Everyone is on their own journey & social media only shows the good side of life. Instagram doesn’t capture the fights, the money struggles, the hours spent working, just to afford that plane ticket. Twitter doesn’t show the tears that are behind those depressing tweets that everyone takes too lightly. Facebook doesn’t show the moments that tear a family apart.

So next time you (or I) feel less than enough because of a silly picture on Instagram, remember that it’s not a competition. It’s okay to not have thousands of followers & only get 3 retweets. It’s not about likes, comments or follows. Social media should be about sharing what makes you happy, & encouraging others to do the same.

So go congratulate your classmate on that new job & tell your best friend just how good they look in their new outfit. Tweet your favorite bible verse because it means a lot to you even though it won’t get hundreds of likes. Take lots of selfies with your dog & don’t be afraid to post them, because remember, it’s not a competition.

Good morning!

This week’s outfit of the week is all from Charming Charlie. I am absolutely obsessed with that store! It really helps my OCD because it’s all color coordinated. I got the dress last summer & I love it because it can be dressed up or down. For work, I usually pair it with wedges & then on weekends I trade out the wedges for slip on’s. I just recently got these sandals & they are a perfect neutral brown. I think I’ve worn them every day this week…

As for my weekend, I’m going to Ikea today to shop for my apartment. I mostly have all my decorations, but I’m honestly having an interior design crisis because there are so many cute ideas I want to do, but I don’t know how to put them all together?! So hopefully going to Ikea will help, but I will most likely just buy more unnecessary items. So wish me luck. And tomorrow I have a wedding to attend that I’m super excited about. I’m also thinking about filming a wedding get ready with me… I don’t know yet, but keep an eye out for that 😉

Also, I’m in love with Lauren Conrad’s new July collection! Already saving up my monies…

Goodbye Boredom

Your sunburn has turned to a tan. The pool floats are popped. The thought of ice cream makes you sick. Now what?

Below, I’ve created a list of the Top 10 Things I like to do when I find myself with too much free time. And they are all reasonable (meaning they don’t require a million dollars or last minute passport).

1.) Redecorate

If you ask my friends & family, this is all I ever do. But when I get bored, I start to sit & think about what I could change up in my room & before you know it, everything is out of it’s place & my room is a different color. (JK, it’s not that bad.)

2.) DIY

Pinterest is where to start with this one. I have an entire board on Pinterest dedicated to crafts & ideas I want to try when I have the time. I’m also thinking about making a DIY section on this blog so… let me know if that’s something y’all would like!

3.) Bake

But seriously, there are a lot of good recipes on Pinterest that may require special ingredients or time that you can’t make on a regular day when you’re just craving something sweet. Now is the time to try that homemade red, white & blue layer cake topped with sparklers.

4.) Spa Day

Who doesn’t love a massage or pedicure? If you can’t afford a professional spa day, treat yourself at home. Get some ideas here.

5.) Thrift Store Shopping

I recently found a pair of old Levi’s at a thrift store & I was able to turn them into denim shorts. You never know what you’ll find…

6.) Dollar Store Shopping

Along the same lines, I love going to go to the dollar store & finding knick knack beauty products or holiday decorations for cheap.

7.) Photoshoot

You don’t even need a fancy camera or designer clothes either. Plan a photoshoot with some friends & explore your town for candid spots. Late evening is a great time to take photos anyway, so it’s a perfect hot weather activity!

8.) Attend a Matinee

Afternoon showings of movies are generally cheaper than night, so stay inside & catch a show!

9.) Color

And then have a snack & take a nap! Kidding, but there are a lot of coloring books made for adults that are actually pretty cool. And they make great artwork to add to your newly remodeled room 😉

10.) Organize

Okay so not everyone is as OCD as I am when it comes to having a clean space, but it can feel really good to get rid of stuff, as well as get organized for the next school year & figure out what you need. Save yourself the last minute stress & do it now.

Let me know what kinds of things you like to do when you’re bored in the comments or on social media! I hope this helps kill your summer blues…

Fashion Hacks to Minimize Sweat

Summer is probably my least favorite time of year in terms of dressing. I feel like no matter what I put on, I’ll just end up sweating & ruining my look. I also live in Arizona where an average day in July could be 115 degrees. So in this post, I present to you the few hacks I have learned for still looking presentable in the dog days of summer.

The top tip I suggest is wearing a bralette or better yet, nothing at all. Bralettes work well with backless dresses if you can’t pull off the no-bra look, & they also don’t have an underwire that causes uncomfortableness & boob sweat. (Don’t even get me started.)

Second tip: wear loose & flowy clothing as much as possible. Peplum tops, t-shirt dresses & cotton shorts are just a few of my go-tos.

Also, wear light colors as much as possible. Not only do light colors not show sweat as much, but technically, they should help keep you cooler.

Most importantly, don’t bother doing your hair. If you live in humidity, you probably already know that. Not only is it a good excuse to give your locks a break, but you don’t have to worry about neck sweat & all that comes with wearing your hair down in the summer. Try a messy ponytail with a bandana like shown here, or easy braids like this one.

Last but not least, minimize your accessories. Limit chunky necklaces, scarves & backpacks. Try thin chokers, bandanas & cross body purses. You’ll thank yourself later!

I hope these tips help y’all! Let me know what you do to minimize sweat this time of year because I would definitely like to know!

Happy Friday!

Todays’s outfit of the week is the closest I am going to get to wearing nothing, which is unfortunately, socially unacceptable. It’s been so hot lately I am unmotivated to look cute because I just end up melting.

I got these shorts at H&M a few weeks ago & I was so excited to find them because I’ve been looking for quality shorts for so long. I really dislike shorts & pants shopping because it’s so hard to find pants that fit my legs & my hips. The struggle is real.

Also, I’m wearing the same shoes from last week because they are super cute & comfy. Check out my last post for deets…

P.S. Have a happy 4th!!

These shorts are super comfy & actually fit! I got the top from a friend a few years ago, but its sheer lace & super cool for hot days. And of course, I’m wearing my favorite shoes ever. (I have a lot of fav shoes if you couldn’t already tell…) My choker is from the LC Lauren Conrad collection.

Weekend Bag Essentials

I know I have so many posts talking about essentials, but I love to read about the newest seasonal beauty products, or tips for make bag packing quicker, so I thought y’all probably do to. And I’ve got vacation on my mind so I’ve decided to dedicate a few posts to talking about staycations.

As much as I love traveling to new places, there’s something fun about exploring your own state & finding new things to do. Scottsdale has become one of my favorite destinations for a weekend get-away. From Old Town Scottsdale with art galleries & cute shops, to the hub of up-scale malls, there is always something to do.

But I will have to admit my favorite part of staycations is the packing. It’s so much easier to pack for 3 days than 3 weeks! Just throw in a bathing suit & sun hat & you’re set. Below, I’ve outlined the items I can’t live without on any given weekend away:

  • Bathing Suit
  • Hat
  • Tinted Moisturizer
  • Magazine/Book
  • Clutch

I hope this helps y’all when packing! Let me know what essentials you pack in your weekend bag in the comments or on social media!

Happy Friday!

Today’s outfit of the week is pretty simple: a black romper, sun hat & flip flops. Put a bunch of basic items together, to create a chic, minimalistic look.

This was one of the few times I wasn’t wearing a bathing suit over the weekend, so I thought I should capture it! I got the shoes at Charming Charlie & I always get a lot of compliments whenever I wear them (btw, they’ve having a semi-annual sale right now). I’m not sure what they’re called though… Strappy sandals? Band flip flops? Idk, but they’re cute & that’s all that matters! I’ll link similar items below so you can snag yourself a pair! (& they’re both under $20)

Sheln Double Band Slip Ons

LC Lauren Conrad Firefli Women’s Sandal

I was waiting patiently for my continental breakfast in this pic, btw…

Staycation Recap

Today is the Monday-est Monday ever, if that’s even a thing! I’m still in vacation mode. But speaking of vacation, below are some pictures from my stay at Scottsdale Camelback Resort this weekend. I planned on taking the time to shoot more, but I honestly got so caught up in actually being present, that I forgot all about it. I think it’s important to take time to relax & not focus on work, & vacation is the perfect time to do that.

Possibly the best part of the whole weekend… the Cupcake ATM! I got a carrot cake cupcake & wow, devine. 10/10 would recommend making a stop if you’re ever in Scottsdale!
I got to catch up with a college friend! Long distance friendships are hard.
I spent most of my time lying poolside trying not to burn! And also catching up on Vogue.

I wish I had more to share, but honestly it felt good to not be so focused on finding the next ‘grammable thing & just be able to relax. Keep an eye out for more pics of my whereabouts…

Happy Friday!

Today is an especially good Friday because I’m going on staycation! It was the only thing getting me through this week. One of my best gal friends is coming & I’m so excited for a much needed girls weekend. Also, I will definitely be taking tons of pictures so I’ll do a little staycation recap on the blog next week! Now, for my outfit of the week…

This is a relaxed office look. (For all you interns & 9-5ers!) Professional & put together, but comfy. Comfort should be the first thought when getting dressed for work!
Add a cardigan for extra chic-ness & in case the AC is on full blast! Adding layers to any look can help dress it up.
