Chic of the Week

Hi guys!

I’m back from a little getaway to Palm Springs & I’m excited to share some cute looks I shot while there! It was honestly overwhelming because there are so many Instagrammable places, but I tried to just enjoy my time & get photos when I could.

We tried a new coffee shop almost every day we were there hahah this was taken at Ernest, which was also connected to a bar.

Anyway, outfit deets: Tank top is from Target & has become my go-to top this summer. It can be dressed up or down! The pants are from Tilly’s & they are my favorite pair of jeans! So comfy & they have a cute flare leg. The hair clips are also from Target, & I’m honestly so happy they’re coming back in style. I love styling second or third day hair with them. They make it look like I tried!!

I will be posting a full Palm Springs recap with all of the things that we did, places we went, what we ate, etc. so be on the lookout for that!!

Homemade Hummus

Hi guys!

Today I am sharing one of my absolute favorite recipes! Homemade hummus! Fun Fact about me: I loveee hummus. Chickpeas are one of my favorite foods. Blend them into creamy goodness & I can eat a whole plate! I’ve been known to go to restaurants and order the hummus & veggie appetizer as my meal because it’s just THAT good. But also sometimes the only vegan thing on the menu…

Anyway, I started making this recipe last year when my dad pointed out how much money I was spending on hummus & he had a point! I love Sabra, but I would eat it so often that I was buying about two containers a week! Making my own has been wayyy cheaper & the taste is still amazing. It literally only takes a few minutes & a few ingredients!

Ingredients: 1 can of chickpeas

Garlic clove

Lemon juice

Tahini or sesame seed oil

Paprika

Salt

Olive oil

Cumin

Water

Prep time: 10 minutes

Serves: 6

I didn’t include any measurements because I’ve found it tastes best with a little bit of this, & a lil’ bit of that! You can find the original Pinterest recipe here if you want exact measurements. I normally use 2 cans of chickpeas because I like to make large quantities, & I think it blends better with more. I would suggest using a food processor because chopping the chickpeas is important for creating the creamy, smooth consistency.

Chic of the Week

Hi guys!

I have a super cute athleisure outfit to share today! I am part of a new program with Fabletics where I choose the outfit I post about every month! I already have so many workout outfits that I didn’t really need another legging/top combo. BUT I loveee loungewear & being comfy so I chose something that I can wear hanging out or working out 😉 They don’t have the white shorts anymore, but I linked the same pair in grey.

This pic was taken in my new room!! I pretty much have it all decorated, but I want to get some more plants & candles hahah I don’t have a green thumb though, so tell me some plants that are easy to keep alive in the comments!!

Chic of the Week

Hey guys! Happy Friday!

This week’s outfit of the week is honestly my go-to uniform – denim, a white tee, cute shoes, & some accessories to add a touch of style. I have noticed I am most happy & confident when I look cute & feel comfortable. There’s nothing worse than an uncomfy outfit!! I have learned to make even the most basic outfit look like I tried.

The tee is originally from Zara, but I got it thrifting at Buffalo Exchange. The jeans are from Tilly’s & are actually my new favorite pair of pants. Belt is from Target of course!!

I moved into my new place this week & I am in loveee with it & living alone! I have so much work to do to make it look cute & I currently have no wifi so I’m sitting in a coffee shop getting all my social media (& social interaction) in lol. But I wasn’t about to let no wifi stop me from posting a Chic of the Week! I also wanted to share these cute photos that we took at my internship a few weeks ago! It’s ending in a couple of weeks & I’m actually so sad 😦 If you don’t know, I’m an intern at Homemade Social, a boutique social media marketing agency in sunny Scottsdale, AZ! It has been such a fun, interesting experience for SURE. I have learned so much about social media & the industry as a whole, it has really inspired me!!

Moving Tips + Hacks

Hi guys! Happy Monday!

In today’s post I’m going to be bringing you some moving tips… or hacks… or whatever you want to call it! I’m currently in the process of moving so it’s very relevant, & I know that summer is a common time to move, especially for college students! I have moved every year for the past 3 years, so I know what I’m doing (or sorta). I get really stressed with moving so I hope these tips can help some of you be less stressed!!

1.) Pack decorations first

Start small so you feel like you are making progress! You also don’t need decorations to live, so you won’t be scrambling to find your toothbrush or pots & pans while you’re in the process of moving.

2.) Clean & declutter

Moving is a great time to dust those shelves you’ve neglected, wash your comforter, get rid of clothes, throw away old papers… basically a great time to practice minimalism! I am pretty good about being clean & getting rid of stuff throughout the year, but I definitely get lazy & stuff piles up. Also, donate your clothes to a place like Plato’s Closet or Buffalo Exchange! You can sell your clothes for cash, & who doesn’t want that?!

3.) Use Rubbermaids

Not only is this more environmentally friendly, but then you can use them for storage once you move! I started doing this freshman year & have never bought a box since.

4.) Label, label, label

So it’s definitely my OCD coming out, but I find it extremely helpful to label boxes where I want them to go in the new place, i.e. kitchen, bedroom, bathroom, living room… this way whoever is helping you move also knows where to put things so they don’t just pile up by the doorway.

5.) Wrap clothes in grocery bags

I used to fold up all my clothes & put them in a bin BUT that took up sooo much space. The past few times I’ve moved, I’ve used a garbage bag to keep my clothes clean while moving, but also so I wouldn’t have to take them all off their hangers & then put them back on. It saves so much time! If you are moving to a smaller space & need more closet space, invest in a rolling clothes rack that you can use to move clothes & then store them once you move!

6.) Utilize storage you already have

I know baskets are having a moment, so you probably have a few laying around. Put shoes or other little knick-knacks in them for moving! Also, use your suitcase!! I like to put all my purses or leftover hangers in it because it rolls so perfectly & doesn’t take up a ton of space.

I hope this was somewhat helpful! I am surprisingly calm considering I move in a day & still have a lot to pack 🙂 buttt I’m trying to remain calm & remind myself that everything will come together because it always does 🙂

P.S. The photo is a sneak peek of my new place!!!

Chic of the Week

Happy Friday guys!!

I took a little day trip last weekend to Prescott, AZ! It was rainy when we first got up there & we almost turned back around, but it’s about an hour & a half away so we gave it another shot & drove into town & I’m so happy we did! It ended up being so fun to walk around the square & go in the shops. My grandparents lived there when I was little, so it’s a place that holds a TON of happy, fun memories. I was feeling very nostalgic.

I was wishing I had worn a more weather-appropriate outfit, but I was planning on a summer roadtrip! The tee is from Urban Outfitters, but I got it last summer, so I don’t think it’s around anymore, but they always have the cutest graphic tees! The shorts are from Target & I got so many compliments on them on my Instagram post! They are cute & high-waisted & the perfect touch to any summer outfit.

I’m off to see the new Lion King movie!! I’ll have to give a review next week 😉

Vegan Chocolate Chip Cookies

Hi guys & happy Monday!

I made the most delicious chocolate chip cookies last week because I was in the mood to bake & I just had to share the recipe! I posted about them on my Instagram story & got so many replies requesting the recipe so here it is 🙂

These will definitely become a staple dessert for me when I’m craving something sweet or need to bring something to a party! Even my non-vegan friends approved of these sweets 😉 Honestly, you can’t even tell they are vegan! The original recipe on Pinterest calls for cornstarch, but I didn’t have any so I left it out & they turned out fine. I also replaced the flaxseed with applesauce & it worked out great. I added a little bit of almond milk to the batter because it was too crumbly, so that’s why it’s listed as optional.

Also, for thicccc cookies make sure to let the batter sit in the fridge for about half an hour!

Ingredients: 1/2 cup Earth Balance vegan butter

1 1/2 cups flour

1 tsp baking soda

1 1/4 cups brown sugar

1 1/2 cups non-dairy chocolate chips

2 tsp vanilla extract

1 tbsp flaxseed or applesauce

almond milk (optional)

Prep time: 20 minutes

Makes about 24 cookies

Directions:

1.) In a large bowl using a handheld mixer or a stand mixer with the paddle attachment, beat the softened vegan butter for a minute until creamy. Now add in the brown sugar and mix for 1-2 minutes, until fluffy.

2.) Add the vanilla and the applesauce and mix in.

3.) Next, stop the mixer and add 1 cup of the flour, baking soda and salt on top of the flour. Turn the mixer on low speed, and mix until just combined.

4.) Add the other 1/2 cup of flour and mix until crumbles form, then use your hands to form a large ball of dough. The dough should be easy to handle, not too wet or dry. If the dough is too wet to handle, add a few tablespoons more flour at a time. If the dough is too wet, your cookies will be totally flat. If the dough is too dry, add a tablespoon or two of almond milk.

5.) Add in the chocolate chips, either by hand or with a spoon until they are evenly distributed.

6.) Cover the bowl tightly with plastic wrap and refrigerate/chill for at least 30 minutes.

7.) Remove the cookie dough from the fridge and let sit on the counter for about 15 minutes. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F and line two cookie sheets with parchment paper or silicone mats.

8.) Roll the dough into balls, about 1-2 tablespoons each. Bake for about 10 minutes, until they are barely golden around the edges.

Love, Loss, & Growth

I considered not writing this post, because it’s still hard to think about & talk about & I feel so vulnerable. BUT I’m coming upon a year (on Friday to be exact) of the biggest heartbreak I have experienced, & I thought it was time that I share more about the relationship & how I deal/dealt with the loss of someone so important to me, in hopes that someone else can resonate & feel maybe just a little bit better 🙂

I never really talked too much about my relationship here because I didn’t (& don’t) want a relationship or another person to become my identity. I think too often some people are so involved with their significant other on the Internet that it becomes all people associate them with. I’m not putting them down because there are so many cute, healthy relationships that make me go #goals & believe in love again haha. But I don’t want that. At least not right now. Because I’m 21 & if there is one thing I’ve learned at this stage in life, it’s that people change & leave you & it hurts like heck & I don’t want to be reminded of them on every corner of the Internet.

I met him in middle school. Funny thing, my dad actually coached him in basketball & I remember thinking he was sooo cute. Little did I know that years later he would become my best friend, boyfriend, first love, & then a complete stranger.

Fast forward to high school just a couple of years later & we ended up being in the same friend group. He was crushin’ on me hard, but I was so excited that there were boys actually paying attention to me that I didn’t pay much attention to him. But we hung out together with our friend group & started texting & flirting. He became one of my closest friends & was always there for me through a few relationships & all the boy drama I put myself through. He asked me out a few times before I said yes… the rest is pretty much history.

We share the exact same birthday. He is literally only about 3 hours older than me, & through some digging we found out we were actually born in the same hospital!! Pretty crazy. I don’t think it was coincidence though. We were pretty much meant to be from the start.

Our relationship wasn’t easy. In high school, we didn’t get to see each other a lot, which put a strain on the relationship. Family relationships & typical high school drama didn’t help either. Then we both went to separate colleges about 2 & 1/2 hours away. Long distance FaceTime calls & infrequent weekend visits consumed our relationship & lives.

But despite the bad, there was so, so much good. He taught me so much. Not only how to drive stick shift (or at least he tried to lol), but that people’s opinions don’t matter that much. Friend & family relationships always come first. It is possible to build an ice cream cone bigger than your head. He taught me how to snowboard, the first & only time I’ve been haha. He showed me that romance isn’t dead, & there’s nothing a large pizza & an episode of “The Office” can’t fix.

Eventually, we started to drift apart. I broke up with him on July 12, 2018. And it was the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do. Not only because I still loved him so deeply, but because I hurt the one person who I never thought I would hurt.

I didn’t know what to do. I had to get used to a new normal without my person. I felt guilty about being sad about a relationship that I ended. I felt misunderstood & lost.

No one tells you how to fix a heartbreak. It will be scary. It will be hard. It will hurt. You’ll be confused. Mad. But my oh my, will you GROW. You’ll have more time for yourself & the things that make you happy. You’ll build stronger relationships with the people you do have in your life. You’ll grow in your faith & begin to understand the real meaning behind, everything happens for a reason. You also might scream the lyrics of “Truth Hurts” by Lizzo & cry yourself to sleep, but again, no one tells you how to fix a heartbreak.

It’s hard to summarize a 3 & 1/2 year long relationship. There were lots of downs, so many ups, mistakes, & many lessons learned together. But because of it, I am better, stronger, more confident, loving, romantic, understanding & compassionate. I can confidently say that although the relationship didn’t have the fairy tale ending I always dreamed about, I would never change a thing. And I hope he can say the same.

Planner Organization

Hi guys!

It’s that time of year again… PLANNER SHOPPING!! June is seriously my favorite month just because I have to go planner shopping & I absolutely loveeee it. I look forward to it all year & it’s pretty much the only reason I somewhat enjoy going back to school haha. I just love being organized & feeling (key word) like my life is together & a cute planner really helps me with that. I was that girl in high school that actually used the lame planner they gave every student at the beginning of the year! Now I go to Target & stand in the planner section for half an hour & just dream.

I wanted to briefly tell you guys how I organize my planner so you guys can get organized for the new school year or just get your life together too! I love watching YouTube videos about going back to school or looking up planner organization ideas on Pinterest. I’m not kidding when I say I’m obsessed guys!! I want to be a resource for all of you who might also love the feeling of getting your life together, but you’re also a perfectionist that wants every detail of every day mapped out just right.

So I love Day Designer planners. This is not sponsored, although I soo wish it was hahah. I have been using their planners since I got to college & they specifically have academic planners which is perfect for me because I mainly use my planner to keep track of stuff for class. I like the planners that have a month view, week view, and day-to-day view. This way I can see what my month looks like at a glance, my week, etc.

I begin with the month overview. I write down any dates that I know are for sure in pen & then sketch in possible dates with pencil. I always make sure to put the time of stuff as well ‘cuz ya girl WILL forget lol. The planner I use also has a “notes” section on the month overview, & that’s where I plan out my blog content for the month, & make a larger “To-Do” list of things I want to accomplish that month. It helps me see the big picture.

Next, I go week by week. I’ll write in any dates or deadlines for the week, establish my top three “To-Dos” for the week, & map out what I will accomplish each day. Again, this way I can see the whole week at a glance & prepare for each day accordingly.

Sometimes I color code my planner, but this time I’m using the stickers that came with the planner to indicate different things. Color coding is really helpful to break down tasks, but the stickers are also fun & a great way to keep track of what’s going on daily.

I think I will do another whole post about how I work, because I plan my weeks out based on  my energy levels throughout the week. I went to this really cool blogging event & someone was talking about how they work with the seasons & all this stuff about astrology too, & it sounded kinda crazy, but honestly they are onto something!! I have already noticed when my energy levels are high & when I feel most productive & motivated, so I generally plan my busy days & harder tasks on those days. But more on that later!

Also, I was going to link my exact planner, but I can’t find it online! I got it at Target in case you were wondering though 🙂

Chic of the Week

Hey guys, happy weekend!

I’m sharing another Fabletics outfit today because I honestly have nothing else to share. I have been wanting to have a “photoshoot” for so long because I’m lacking content! It seems the only time I go out & take photos is if I have a campaign to shoot. I’m trying to get in the habit of taking more random pics when I’m out, but tbh, I’m not always in the mood! If I have a photoshoot planned I know that I need to look cute & I can get pumped up for it because it honestly takes a lot out of me. Getting the perfect shot & editing it is so satisfying, but the process of getting ready, finding a location, posing… all that stuff is not as fun/easy as it looks! Anyway, rant over, but now you guys know why I share so many Fabletics outfits!

I’m going to be honest, I think this outfit was too big on me so that is making it less flattering, but it’s just not an outfit I would choose to workout in. It reminds me of  a biking outfit or something hahah. The top seems like it would be great to throw on at the beach or for a chilly hike or something! I know biker shorts are a trend, but these ones weren’t even cute on me 😦 The clothing itself is high quality as always, just not my style so I think I didn’t feel so great in it. I just kinda feel like a biker/scuba diver gal? Idk, just not me. I’ll link it down below though, because the pieces by themselves would be cute!! Also, my pic is on the Fabletics site for this outfit so if nothing else, click the link to see my 15 seconds of fame hahah!
