Planner Organization

Hi guys!

It’s that time of year again… PLANNER SHOPPING!! June is seriously my favorite month just because I have to go planner shopping & I absolutely loveeee it. I look forward to it all year & it’s pretty much the only reason I somewhat enjoy going back to school haha. I just love being organized & feeling (key word) like my life is together & a cute planner really helps me with that. I was that girl in high school that actually used the lame planner they gave every student at the beginning of the year! Now I go to Target & stand in the planner section for half an hour & just dream.

I wanted to briefly tell you guys how I organize my planner so you guys can get organized for the new school year or just get your life together too! I love watching YouTube videos about going back to school or looking up planner organization ideas on Pinterest. I’m not kidding when I say I’m obsessed guys!! I want to be a resource for all of you who might also love the feeling of getting your life together, but you’re also a perfectionist that wants every detail of every day mapped out just right.

So I love Day Designer planners. This is not sponsored, although I soo wish it was hahah. I have been using their planners since I got to college & they specifically have academic planners which is perfect for me because I mainly use my planner to keep track of stuff for class. I like the planners that have a month view, week view, and day-to-day view. This way I can see what my month looks like at a glance, my week, etc.

I begin with the month overview. I write down any dates that I know are for sure in pen & then sketch in possible dates with pencil. I always make sure to put the time of stuff as well ‘cuz ya girl WILL forget lol. The planner I use also has a “notes” section on the month overview, & that’s where I plan out my blog content for the month, & make a larger “To-Do” list of things I want to accomplish that month. It helps me see the big picture.

Next, I go week by week. I’ll write in any dates or deadlines for the week, establish my top three “To-Dos” for the week, & map out what I will accomplish each day. Again, this way I can see the whole week at a glance & prepare for each day accordingly.

Sometimes I color code my planner, but this time I’m using the stickers that came with the planner to indicate different things. Color coding is really helpful to break down tasks, but the stickers are also fun & a great way to keep track of what’s going on daily.

I think I will do another whole post about how I work, because I plan my weeks out based on  my energy levels throughout the week. I went to this really cool blogging event & someone was talking about how they work with the seasons & all this stuff about astrology too, & it sounded kinda crazy, but honestly they are onto something!! I have already noticed when my energy levels are high & when I feel most productive & motivated, so I generally plan my busy days & harder tasks on those days. But more on that later!

Also, I was going to link my exact planner, but I can’t find it online! I got it at Target in case you were wondering though 🙂

Productivity Tips

I’m going to be starting a series all about productivity & organization since I’m back in school now & that’s all that’s on my mind! For all you college students, this will be super helpful & even those who are working, there are always new ways to make your Monday-Friday a little easier! I’ve adopted all these tips over time & these are the things that work best for me day-to-day.

1.) Do as much as you can the night before

I set out my outfit for the next day, pack my lunch & pack my backpack all before I go to sleep. Some nights I just want to crawl into bed & not even think about the next day, but it’s easier for me to sleep knowing I’m somewhat prepared for the following day!

2.) Wake up early

All you non-morning people are probably like “really Jaslyn??!!” but I swear it’s the best thing for you. I get my workout in first thing, then get ready & have breakfast all before most people have even gotten out of bed. Now this does require going to bed earlier since sleep is the most important thing in my book because you can’t get stuff done when you’re sleepy! Slowly you will create a habit of rising with the sun (or sometimes even before) & going to bed before midnight & you’ll feel a lot better.

3.) Look at your planner before you look at your phone

I set my phone on my desk to charge overnight & don’t even look at it until the next morning after I’ve taken out my planner & written my top 3 to-do’s for the day. Which leads me to the next tip…

4.) Make a “Top 3” for the day

Write down three things you must accomplish that day. The rest can wait for tomorrow or the weekend.

5.) Be organized

I cannot stress this enough! Having a clean work space & a planner with all the day’s work in it, makes getting stuff done so much easier!

6.) Switch up your work environment

Coffee shops are always a good idea. Get together with others to study or get stuff done because just like with working out, having a friend can make it all easier (or at least more fun!)

7.) Motivate yourself

My personal favorite for studying & chores is an iced chai & Disney music.

8.) Break things down

Big tasks can seem really daunting, so break them down throughout the week.

9.) Set a timer

Set a timer for an hour & do as much as you can. Then take a break & do it again!

10.) Silence your phone

This one is tough, not gonna lie. But the constant dinging makes me want to respond to that text & then see that Instagram notification & then scroll through the Explore page… you get the idea! If it’s easier, just put your phone out of sight & then you won’t even be tempted.

Being productive is always a good feeling. It will take time to get rid of bad habits such as distractions & procrastination, but you’ll get the hang of it! I still have bad days where I just want to sleep & cry, but balance in life is everything… Don’t strive for perfection; just strive for better than yesterday.

What kinds of productivity tips do you guys have? I would love to know in the comments or on social media!

P.S. How often do you all want me to post? During the summer I was able to keep up with twice a week, but I’m starting to think maybe once a week, plus an OOTW? Let me know 🙂

Back-to-School Supplies Haul

Probably one of my favorite parts about going back to school is shopping for new school supplies (other than buying new clothes which ~hopefully~ I’ll have a post about soon). I love the smell of new pencils & blank paper just waiting to be written all over & smeared with tears (at least in my case!!) It’s so fun to personalize your stuff & pick out your favorite notebook colors. I don’t know about you guys, but it truly gives me more motivation to study when my stuff looks cute! Ya know, so you can take a studious snapchat & then continue to procrastinate… 😉 Anyway, every school is different & I’m in college so my school supplies is honestly limited because a lot of my work is done on my laptop. But I will give you guys a list of what I do have in case you need some inspiration/motivation!

  • 3 ring binder, with dividers & folder
  • 2 spiral notebooks
  • No. 2 pencils
  • black pen
  • highlighters
  • sticky notes
  • big eraser
  • headphones
  • laptop

What’s your favorite part about going back to school? Let me know in the comments or on social media! Have a good year & remember, your GPA does not define you 🙂

Back to School: Planners & Stationery I’m Loving

With fall classes fast approaching I’m getting ready to go back to school shopping & my favorite part is always looking for a new planner. I am a very organized person who loves having every aspect of my life thought out & color coordinated in a cute notebook.

Target is probably my favorite store, especially when it comes to back to school shopping. I have gotten my planners & school supplies there since the beginning of high school. Every season they come out with a new design for their planners & stationary. This year’s design is from the Ashely G. Collection for Blue Sky & includes gold, white & pinks with various patterns. I opted for their largest planner with a ringed binder that has a gold, polk-dot design. Inside it has a space for notes & even a section for “Gratitude”. Each day I can write down one thing I’m grateful for, which is so important for staying sane! I got a smaller planner/address book for my blog scheduling. For my desk, I got a calendar that will allow me to quickly glance at that day’s schedule & events. It also gives me a space to jot down quick notes.

Not everyone loves planning & organization as much as I do. If the thought of scheduled days & thinking ahead is scary, these planners are a not-so-intimidating way to start. They offer different sized planners & calendars so they are perfect for every occasion. Just start by jotting down your plans for the week & soon you’ll have the next 3 months planned out! Life won’t always go as planned, but planners can definitely help!
